5 times when Geopanel saved the day
21 July 2022
Geopanel was the first recycled plastic formwork that revolutionized the construction industry. It was an invention of Mirco Pegoraro, our CEO, launched in 2005 and registered as a patent by the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2019.
Unlike the timber and metal options at the time, Geopanel was extremely light and easy to install by unskilled workers. This made it suitable for any worksite conditions, be it confined spaces, remote locations, or challenging environments.
Below is a selection of projects that would have been difficult, costly, or outright impossible to make without Geopanel’s innovative features.
Sydney Light Rail, Moore Park
The builders of Sydney Light Rail needed to create large maintenance manholes at a confined worksite exposed to live traffic. Geopanel allowed quick manual setup, with significant savings in machinery and time.
Berrigan Main Channel, New South Wales
The Berrigan Main Channel dam needed a replacement of one of the gates during the short shut down between seasons. Geopanel helped pour the gate structure in less than 5 days, preventing further dam disruptions.
Yunlin County Water Treatment Plant, Taiwan
The Yunlin County Government needed new water treatment facilities for agricultural and residential use. Until then, Geopanel was mainly used for flat walls, but thanks to its modularity, it created circular tanks ranging from 8 to 21 m diameters, minimizing the construction costs.
Palmetto Expressway Crash Wall, Miami
The builders of the Palmetto Expressway overpass needed to construct a protective concrete wall by conjoining the existing pillars. Since crane use was not possible, Geopanel proved perfect as the safest, most cost-efficient, and time-saving solution.
Viaduct restoration, Southern Italy
The 1960s viaduct in Southern Italy had corroded pylons that needed urgent reconstruction. As opposed to metal alternatives, Geopanel’s heaviest element weighs only 11 kg, allowing quick manual installation in limited maneuvering space.
