Modulo Project: elevation of the existing slab at Palm Lodge Hotel in Windhoek, Namibia
by Nikola Tosic, 21 February 2018
Modulo, permanent crawl space formwork in recycled polypropylene, has been chosen to elevate the existing slab at Palm Lodge, a new hotel currently under construction in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
It is the latest project by Chigama Architects, an innovative and dynamic architectural firm practising in Namibia, which will offer several facilities for business and leisure travellers visiting Namibia’s capital city.
Modulo H17 was chosen because it gave the least loading to the existing slab, only requiring a 50mm concrete topping to elevate the floor level by 220mm. It also guaranteed a faster installation up to the 80% with respect to the use of traditional inert materials.
In addition to lightness and ease of installation, the innovative filler element manufactured by Geoplast offered also a void suitable for stormwater drainage, thanks to its dome shape.
